Formada por Agustina Giménez en voz, Ramiro García Lolo en guitarra, armónica y voz, Julio Salguero en guitarra, Diego Martin Romero en bajo y Nahuel Balverde en bateria, esta banda viene formándose desde 2006 y en 2009 comenzaron con una serie de ensayos, con el objetivo de comenzar a rodar por los diversos espacios de la ciudad. Tras un largo período de perfeccionamiento, la primera presentación en vivo fue en marzo de 2011. Durante el transcurso de ese año se presentaron en diversos lugares de la ciudad, el bar TuMadre, la Bodega de el Teatro Auditorium, Rondó Bar, Antares Brew Pub, Dickens, entre otros.
Si bien reconocen influencias de la música en general, el género al que se pegan más fuertemente es el folk: “pero las canciones van variando por si solas en distintos géneros, lo que hace que no terminen de estar fuertemente arraigadas a uno solo”, dicen los integrantes de On a whale. Los comienzos fueron con Agustina y Ramiro (primos fuera de la banda), quienes se dividían el trabajo: él componía temas propios en un inglés intuitivo y le pasaba a ella los casettes con esas grabaciones, quien le ponía las letras en inglés.
De esa forma fue que nacieron los primeros temas de On a whale, entre 2006 y 2008. Sin embargo, se decidió que era hora de formar una banda y darle otra vuelta a las canciones, por lo que se convocó a varios amigos músicos, quienes tocaron los temas que se habían compuesto. De este grupo, Julio fue quien siguió ensayando y perfeccionando el estilo de la banda.
A fines de el año 2011 On a whale editó su primer EP, un disco de seis canciones, todas composiciones propias: la grabación se realizó con Salomar en el estudio móvil de LDB (El loco de la bici). Dicen los integrantes del grupo que este trabajo “surge como una necesidad de poder mostrar lo que hacemos en forma prolija, para seguir tocando y hacer llegar nuestra música a más personas y lugares.
Este año la banda decide darle a los temas una nueva mirada, sumando temas nuevos e incorporando nuevos sonidos de la mano de Diego Martin Romero en bajo y de Nahuel Balverde en batería.
